Once upon a time, I had a baby.
And boy did my life change! In more ways than the usual. Somehow, little baby Juniper's fragile little life jumpstarted this obsession with finding a way to marry my independence and motherhood - but at the time I didn't know what to call it. All I knew was that I was adamant about holding on to my identity by not giving myself over to the whole June Cleaver and Supermom syndrome, much less the cultural stereotype of what a "good" mom should do and look like! So when baby Juni was just five months old, I bundled her up and we packed our bags for a one-week vacation to Athens, Greece - just us girls (even after my mother offered to give me money - the entire price of the trip - if I would just "make life easier" and NOT GO!).
Since then I've done a lot of reading, researching and soul searching. I've been inspired by other phenomenal women who are mothers doing amazing things. And the result of all this is what you see here. The cornerstone of a big idea.
The heart of the femiNEST™ idea is born of the notion that feminism and motherhood are not mutually exclusive, but deeply connected.
This project is so monumental and so personal for me that I'm a little overwhelmed. So I'm taking baby steps.
The site and its sister project(s) will launch soon. If you’d like to learn more and/or keep up with what we’re up to, I invite you to please join our email newsletter.
